Shiva Mahimna Stotra

॥ ॐ नमः शिवाय ॥  




  


The Shiva Mahimna Stotra is very popular among the devotees of Lord Shiva and is considered one of the best among all Stotras (or Stutis) offered to Lord Shiva .

Knowledge of Chandas is very important to correctly chant the sutras.The Chandas or Sanskrit Meter used in this Stotra is called : ShikhariNI

Defining    .   ,   -   and i  as:
- denotes long syllable (‘guru’ in Sanskrit)
. denotes short syllable (‘laghu’ in Sanskrit)
i denotes place where one inhales

The ShikhariNi can be written as : . - - / - - - / i . . . / . . - / -  . . / . -  i

After 6th Syllable and after 17th Syllable one pauses for inhalation

Following is a table with the first sutra of Mahimna Stotra,  with four padas and each pada has 17 Akshras/Syllables. These Akshras are determined on basis of Paninis Chanda Shastra created more than 2000 years ago
